NYCFC II's U.S. Open Cup run has gone from impressive to magical.

The MLS NEXT Pro club took down a second higher-division club in a row, hanging on to defeat Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 1-0 Wednesday night at Belson Stadium in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32. An early goal from Jonathan Jimenez brought the lead, which NYCFC II defended fiercely.

NYCFC II found an early lead, with Jonathan Jimenez scoring the game's only goal in the sixth minute. Jimenez started his dribble from the top of the box and beat multiple defenders before making space for the shot with a clever dribbling move.

Switchbacks FC found plenty of attacking momentum in the second half, but NYCFC II's defense responded. Goalkeeper Tomas Romero made three saves. Switchbacks FC generated eight total shots, while NYCFC II took its chances from only two shots.

An outstanding Cup run continues into the Round of 16 for NYCFC II. The club defeated another USL Championship side, Hartford Athletic, in a thrilling extra-time comeback in the previous round.

NYCFC II will host New Mexico United on May 21 or 22 in the Round of 16.
