Huntsville, Ala. (Nov. 29, 2023) – Huntsville City Football Club announced today that it will host its inaugural “Huntsville City FC Blastoff Battle” Invitational Tournament at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium on Feb. 16-18, 2024, as part of the City’s “Huntsville City Soccer Fest.” The four-team invitational tournament features Huntsville City FC, MLS NEXT Pro’s newest team, Chattanooga FC, South Georgia Tormenta FC of USL League One, and FC Tulsa of the USL Championship. The match-ups and kickoff times will be announced in January.

The name Huntsville City FC Blastoff Battle is inspired by the Rocket City’s rich space history as it hosts the development and testing of various important parts of space travel and discovery at the Marshall Space Flight Center at Redstone Arsenal. Earlier this season, Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium added a piece of that history to its grounds as it became the home of the J2X NASA Rocket Engine, one of the engines built for Marshall Space Flight Center, which can be visited at the concourse level inside Gate 2.

Along with the “Blastoff Battle,” a variety of soccer events will be taking place throughout the city as part of Huntsville City Soccer Fest presented by the Huntsville Sports Commission and Huntsville Visitors Bureau. The week will include a youth tournament at Merrimack Fields all weekend, as well as a high school varsity and junior varsity invitational at the new turf fields at John Hunt Park and a fan engagement opportunity hosted by the Men’s Soccer team at University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, Feb. 17.

“We are thrilled to anchor our community’s inaugural Huntsville City Soccer Fest by hosting the Blastoff Battle Invitational Tournament, an exciting competition featuring four southern teams from the top tiers in the U.S. Soccer system,” said Liam Doyle, Huntsville City FC Director of Soccer Operations. “Most importantly, the City’s inaugural Soccer Fest and the Blastoff Battle will help grow our great game by bringing together fans, players at all levels, and the city of Huntsville for a celebration of our sport.”

Season ticket members will receive an email to an exclusive 24-hour window where they will be able to purchase their passes before tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 30 at https://www.mlsnextpro.com/huntsvillecityfc/blastoff-battle.
