Chicago Fire II defender Charlie Ostrem has won the Goal of Matchday 15 honor with 47.9% of the Twitter Poll vote.

Crown Legacy FC’s David Poreba earned 38.4% of the vote, while Orlando City B’s Juninho and TFC II’s Jordan Faria finished in third and fourth place respectively.

Ostrem found the back of the net twice in the second half against Columbus Crew 2. His first goal came in the 53rd minute with a rocket from the right side of the box.

His Goal of Matchday 15 winning goal too place after a poor Crew 2 clearance in the 56th minute. Ostrem recovered the ball and played a give-and-go to Richard Flemming, who quickly passed the back to Ostrem near the top of the box, giving him a chance to score.

The 23-year-old defender took advantage of the opportunity and fired a shot using his weaker right foot. The ball flew past the Crew 2 goalkeeper, earning Ostrem his second goal of the night and securing the victory for Chicago Fire II.

Ostrem was selected 33rd overall by Chicago in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft and signed with Chicago Fire FC II in March of 2022.

Since joining the Chicago Fire II, Ostrem has played in 34 matches. Ostrem has started 12 of the 14 matches he has played for Fire II in 2023, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

Before signing with Chicago Fire II, Ostrem played at University of Washington from 2018 to 2021. Ostrem had a decorated college career earning the 2020-21 PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors during his junior year. He also earned All PAC-12 First Team recognition in his senior campaign. Ostrem ended his career at Washington with 75 appearances (61 starts) and 22 assists, ranking ninth all-time for the Huskies. 

Chicago Fire II will look to build on their Matchday 15 victory when they host FC Cincinnati 2 at SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday, July 9.
