For the third time this season, LAFC2’s Matt Evans has been named the winner of the MLS NEXT Pro Goal of the Matchweek award, earning the honor for his strike against North Texas SC on Decision Day.
Other nominees for Goal of Matchweek 30 included Gerardo Valenzuela (FC Cincinnati 2), Andy Rojas (New York Red Bulls II), and Jesus Barea (Real Monarchs).
Evans’ award-winning goal took place in the 23rd minute after receiving a pass from Sebastian Nava near the top of the box. The 19-year-old forward then fired a low shot past the North Texas SC goalkeeper to open the scoring.
With his brace on Decision Day, the 19-year-old forward tripled his goal total from the season before, jumping from three goals in 2024 to nine in 2025. He also added seven assists in his 21 apperances for LAFC2.
The 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs will kick off the weekend of October 17 with the Conference Quarterfinals.
Before the action begins, the top teams in each conference will select their opening-round opponents as the Pick-Your-Opponent playoff format returns for a third consecutive season.
