MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchday 28: Rémi Cabral

Remi Cabral 2

Colorado Rapids 2 set the standard in the Western Conference all season, and Sunday's 4-2 win over MNUFC2 put a bookend to a memorable season for Erik Bushey's side.

Rémi Cabral starred for Rapids 2, with a hat trick that led Rapids 2 to come from behind to win. Cabral took the initiative with his first goal in the 71st minute to level the score, then added two more goals.

Cabral tied for the Golden Boot lead with three goals, equaling the 19 goals scored by Orlando City B's Jack Lynn and NYCFC II's Matthew Myers.

Rapids 2 opened scoring with Jackson Travis finding the net in the 49th minute. However, MNUFC2 grabbed back the lead with goals from Loic Mesanvi and Kage Romanshyn.

Cabral stepped to the penalty spot in the 71st minute, equalizing with a shot into the left side of the net.

The French forward found a match-winner in the 89th minute, receiving a pass from Marlon Vargas and dispatching it into the net with a clean first touch to settle.

To tie the Golden Boot race with two other players, Cabral struck yet again in stoppage time to seal the win. Yosuke Hanya backheeled a short pass into Cabral's path, and Cabral powerfully sent it into the back of the net.

The 24-year-old finishes his first regular season with Rapids 2 in excellent fashion with 19 goals and one assist in 20 appearances.

Cabral started his career in his native France in the Paris Saint-Germain academy alongside his twin brother, Kévin Cabral. After stints with two French clubs, Rémi followed his brother stateside to play for LA Galaxy II, before both twins made the move to the Rapids organization in 2023. Rémi made one first-team appearance in the 2023 season.

Rapids 2 heads into the playoffs having led the Western Conference in scoring with 70 goals. Rapids 2 will receive a first-round bye as the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs start.
