North Texas SC grabs late winner against Earthquakes II

North Texas SC continued its winning form in dramatic fashion with a 1-0 win over Earthquakes II at PayPal Park Sunday evening.

NTSC forward Bernard Kamungo scored for the third consecutive game, grabbing the winner in the 80th minute. The win marks North Texas SC’s first road victory of the season.

Earthquakes II controlled the ball with nearly 60% possession of the ball and finished with 17 shots. However, the home side couldn’t convert its chances – only having four shots on target.

San Jose Earthquakes first team defender Shea Salinas entered the game in the 70th minute for Earthquakes II, but the team from San Jose fell at home for the first time this season.

North Texas SC remained second in the Western Conference with the win, only one point behind leaders Houston Dynamo Dos.

Twenty-year-old Bernard Kamungo won’t stop scoring after netting his third goal in four games.

The forward showcased his goal-scoring prowess against Earthquakes II by beating his defender one-on-one and curling in the winner far post.

The Tanzania native settled in Abilene, Texas, where he starred at Abilene High School. He made his unlikely debut for North Texas last year in USL League 1, scoring five times in 22 games after impressing in a tryout.
