North Texas SC Relieves Head Coach Javier Cano of Duties

Frisco, TX (July 17, 2023) - North Texas SC has relieved Javier Cano of his duties as head coach. The team made the announcement today after North Texas fell 2-1 to Houston Dynamo 2 on Sunday night. NTSC is 5-8-6 on the year and sits in 11th place in the MLS NEXT Pro’s Western Conference 
 
Assistant coach John Gall will assume head coaching duties on an interim basis while Michel Garbini will continue in his role as assistant coach. 
 
“It is always difficult to make changes to a coaching staff during the season,” said North Texas SC general manager Matt Denny. “We believe a change is necessary at this time in order to give us an opportunity to be more competitive as we continue through the MLS NEXT Pro season. 
 
“We appreciate Javi’s efforts and contributions to our organization.” 
 
Cano, 39, joined North Texas SC from Austin FC’s Academy where he coached the U-17 and U-15 Academy clubs. Prior to his time in Austin, Cano served as the head coach of D.C. United’s U-15 and U-19 Academy teams and was as an assistant coach on then-head coach Ben Olson’s staff. He began his coaching career in Spain with CD Utiel in August 2000.
 
Gall, 47, joined North Texas SC for the 2023 season as an assistant coach after taking over as head coach of the FC Dallas Academy U-13s in 2017. During his first year in charge, Gall won the Dallas Cup. In 2020, Gall was promoted to head coach of the U-19s Academy team. During the 2022 MLS NEXT Cup, he led the U-19s to the semifinals. Prior to joining FC Dallas, Gall served as head coach of Flower Mound Marcus High School’s boys soccer team from 2001-16. The Wales native guided the Marauders to back-to-back state titles in 2007-08. Gall also serves as the FC Dallas Youth Boys Director of Coaching. Gall holds USSF A, UEFA A and UEFA Elite Youth A coaching licenses. 
 
Garbini, 42, played three seasons for FC Dallas from 2013-15 and accumulated 12 goals and 17 assists with the MLS club. Primarily a defensive midfielder for the majority of his career, Garbini started his playing career with hometown side Clube Atlético Mineiro in Brazil’s top-flight before moving to Standard Liège in Belgium.
