RNY FC Remembers History as they Prepare for Next Chapter

Rochester New York FC will be the only independent club in MLS Next Pro during the inaugural season. Many can expect the team from upstate New York to be one of the strong contenders to win the first-ever MLS NEXT Pro title.

The city of Rochester has a strong soccer tradition, and RNY FC is a big part of that. Originally founded in 1996, RNY FC made a historic run as the Rhinos in 1999 to win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and, to this date, are the only non-MLS team to win that title since the formation of Major League Soccer in 1996.

With Leicester City star Jamie Vardy joining the club as co-owner, there is a lot of excitement surrounding Rochester New York FC's inaugural season in MLS NEXT Pro.

The latest RNY FC franchise chapter kicks off this Friday in St. Louis as they take on ST Louis CITY2 in front of an expected sellout crowd at Hermann Stadium (8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT). You can watch the historic game live on mlsnextpro.com.
