CAROLINA CORE FC POSTGAME QUOTES

Head Coach Roy Lassiter

Initial reactions on the loss to New England Revolution II …

“We did a better job than last week, coming to compete and play hard. Revolution II are a good side, and I think we looked mature at times in the game. Our main downfall came down to making sure that we defended the goal. It's about making sure as a team committed and engaged in every duel and 1v1 battle. That moment can cause a goal and in the run of play they (Revolution II) scored too. We just need to be clinical in front of goal, and we had our moments to tie the game and take it to extra time. If we had tied the game, we would've had a good chance to win in the penalty shootout. This was significantly better performance overall, than the loss to Atlanta.”

On going down a goal…

"We responded well by getting on the board. We showed maturity and got ourselves in the game, having more possession of the ball and moving it better. We solved the problem behind the attacking midfield, where they found gaps and seams to attack. Once we secured that layer of defense, we saw immediate results. In the second half we were flat there, some of the changes I made in the second half were meant to bring us level again, which didn't work out. The boys stayed in the game and fought really hard until the end. At the end of the day it was a dignified result, we play a lot of games on the road so there's no relief playing at home and in front of our friends. We're looking forward to the opportunity Wednesday (vs. Vermont Green FC in US Open Cup) to bounce back."
