STORYLINES
Foxes Take Down Union II
Carolina Core FC was at home last Wednesday to take on Eastern Conference second place, Philadelphia Union II. The Foxes did not shy away from the challenge and, with impressive efficiency (three goals in four shots on target), were able to put three goals past the tightest defense in the league, with only 14 goals allowed going into the game (lowest in MLSNP). On top of that, Carolina Core FC’s backline was able to keep Union II, the highest-scoring side in the Eastern Conference (44 goals scored), at bay for the majority of the match. Midfielder Glory Nzingo and forward Josuha Rodriguez both contributed goals, helping to propel Carolina Core FC to 24 points—closing the gap to the playoff positions to just two points.
Player to Watch
Glory Nzingo continues to be a standout player for Carolina Core FC during the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season. The 20-year-old Irishman scored a penalty brace in Wednesday night’s win over Philadelphia Union II, which marks his second brace of the season. Nzingo’s performance against Union II brings him to seven goals on the season as he leads Carolina Core FC in goals scored. The attacking midfielder also leads the squad in overall goal contributions with nine. The U21 Ireland international continues to make his mark stateside and will likely play a crucial role against New England Revolution II.
New England Revs II’s Winning Form
New England Revolution II’s recent run of form has seen the team amass a four-game winning streak, winning every match they played in the month of July. In those matches, New England Revolution II outscored their opponents 12-4, bringing them up to fourth in the Eastern Conference with 33 points. Comfortably in the playoff positions, New England Revolution II will be seeking to increase the gap and keep their momentum going against Carolina Core FC. Forward Marcos Dias has shown himself to be one of the most creative players for New England, leading the team in goal contributions (five goals, six assists). The 23-year-old also leads MLS NEXT Pro in key passes with 57.
