There’s No Place Like Home

Carolina Core FC enters the match following their first home game in club history, played at Truist Point against Huntsville City FC on Saturday evening. After following CCFC for eight consecutive road matches, the club’s fans got their first opportunity to see the Foxes in person and their support was felt by all who attended. Despite Truist Point being filled to capacity, Carolina Core FC fell to Huntsville City FC 4-1.

Angel Aguas Makes CCFC History

After a tightly contested first half, the Foxes would break the deadlock in the 50th minute of the match. CCFC defender Angel Aguas scored his first goal of the season after latching on to a corner kick from Jacob Evans and heading the ball in to the back of the net. Aguas’ opener was the first goal scored at Truist Point in club history. The assist was captain Jacob Evans’ second of the season.

An Unfortunate Result

Despite going up 1-0 in the early stages of the second half and dominating possession, CCFC would concede four goals before the full time whistle. Goals from HCFC forwards Forster Ajago, Tyler Pasnik and Adem Sipic saw the game end at 4-1.

Federico Stachuk makes MLSNP debut

Last Saturday’s match against Huntsville City FC marked the MLSNP debut of CCFC forward Federico Stachuk. The Argentine forward earned a place in the starting lineup, leading the line upfront alongside David “Pachi” Polanco. Stachuk played 65 minutes before coming off for midfielder Santiago Cambindo. On the night, Stachuk completed 12 passes, recording one key attacking pass.

Orlando City B

After reaching the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals last season, Orlando City B hope to make a deeper run in the playoffs in Manuel Goldberg’s first season at the helm. Following the promotion of former OCB coach Martín Perelman to Assistant Coach of the first team, Manuel Goldberg takes charge of the side for the 2024 MLSNP season.

Prior to becoming the head coach, Goldberg served as Perelman’s assistant coach for two seasons in which the team made its first-ever MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs appearance. Goldberg previously spent time working for Barça Academy PRO Miami, where he served as a competitive program coach for nearly two years. At the age of 30, Goldberg is the youngest coach in MLS NEXT Pro history.

After the Clásico del Sol

With 4 wins, 4 losses, 3 draws including a penalty shootout victory, Orlando City B (OCB) sit in the 9th position in the Eastern Conference standings with 16 points.

Orlando City B comes into the match on the back of a 3-1 loss in the Clásico del Sol derby against intrastate rivals Inter Miami CF II on June 2.

Inter Miami CF II opened the scoring in the 35th minute of the match as midfielder Lawson Sunderland fired a right-footed shot past OCB keeper Otero, after latching on to a chested pass from defender Nykolas Sessock.

The Lions would find a much-needed equalizer just moments later when midfielder Favian Loyola came off the bench to score a goal in the 40th minute of the match. Loyola scored a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner of the goal, after a backheel pass from OCB striker Wilfredo Rivera. The goal was Loyola’s first of the season.

Inter Miami CF II would take the lead in the 43rd minute of the game with a right-footed shot from striker Ryan Carmichael. Despite going down to 10-men, Inter Miami CF II would find a third from striker Corentin Jean. The Frenchman latched on to a loose ball in the box to fire home a right-footed shot in the 84th minute of the match.

Leading the Line

With last season’s leading goalscorer Jack Lynn (19 goals) promoted to the first team, Orlando City B look to fill his shoes in their quest for a deep playoff run. With five goals so far this season, OCB forward Shakur Mohammed is leading the attack for the Lions. Mohammed is already close to outperforming his previous year total (6 goals) in 9 appearances so far this season.

Orlando City B’s MLS Super Draft signing Yutaro Tsukada has also added four goals and four assists in his first MLS NEXT Pro campaign. OCB forward Wilfredo Rivera has also nearly outperformed his 2023 season, adding three goals and two assists already this season. The team's other eight goals have come from six other players on the squad, showcasing an attacking threat throughout their ranks.

Looking Forward

Carolina Core FC and Orlando City B kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET on Friday. This will be the first time these two sides meet.
