STORYLINES
Rested and Refocused
Carolina Core FC has experienced a lengthy in-season “break” between MLS NEXT Pro games over the past few weeks. The Foxes last played on May 10th, when they successfully maintained a clean sheet against one of the Eastern Conference's most prolific goal-scoring teams, Huntsville City FC (3rd most goals scored in the East). The shutout saw The Core earn a valuable point in front of its fans before three weeks without MLSNP action.
The break in the MLSNP season could not have come at a better time, as the North Carolina-based side played six games across all competitions in the month of April alone—the busiest month of its 2025 season so far. The gap in the schedule also gives Carolina Core FC a chance to refocus, as the team looks to claim its first three points away from home this season and continue a three-game unbeaten away run when visiting Inter Miami CF II. The last time these two sides met was in the first game of CCFC’s 2025 season, which ended in a 1-1 draw, with The Foxes claiming an extra point in the shootout.
Player to Watch
Jathan Juarez has been a regular in Carolina Core FC’s starting eleven, having appeared in all games of the MLS NEXT Pro season so far. The defender demonstrated his value with a pivotal contribution in CCFC’s draw against Huntsville City FC, creating the most chances and completing the most dribbles in the match (four chances created, three dribbles completed). In the 2025 MLSNP season, Juarez holds the third-highest number of key passes (10), following Jacob Evans and Facundo Canete. Juarez will almost certainly be involved in the upcoming rematch against Inter Miami II and will look to play a crucial role in the result.
Inter Miami II Earns Fourth League Win in Thriller
Inter Miami II ended the month of May with a win against Philadelphia Union II on the road. The only goal of the match came from striker Daniel Pinter in the 36th minute following a gorgeous pass played by Santiago Morales. In the 80th minute, Inter Miami II went down a man after Cristián Ortiz fouled a Union player, earning a red card. Despite several late chances, neither team scored again, and Inter Miami II secured a narrow win. Philadelphia dominated the match, having 20 more shots on goal than Inter Miami II, but the Herons held on to earn their second win of the month. The Player of the Match was goalkeeper Ivan Schmid, who made six critical saves and helped to earn a clean sheet. The Herons will look to fight for another win at home on June 1st as they play host to Carolina Core FC.
