MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchweek 25: Atlanta United 2

Atlanta United 2

Three straight home wins have breathed new life into Atlanta United 2's postseason push, with back-to-back wins during Matchweek 25 proving just how dangerous this group can be.

The week began with a 4-1 win over Inter Miami II, where former Inter Miami II forward Leo Afonso struck early to set the tone and Ignacio Suárez netted his first professional goal in a complete team performance.

A few days later, Atlanta passed an even bigger test against third-place Huntsville City FC, grinding out a 2-0 victory over one of the East's top sides.

Cooper Sanchez and Toto Majub both scored their first professional goals, while goalkeeper Josh Cohen produced six saves to secure Atlanta’s second clean sheet of August.

José Silva's side has now won four of its last five matches, climbing within two points of the final playoff spot with five games remaining.

Three of their final five games come against teams currently in playoff position, making the road ahead a tough one, but Atlanta’s current form suggests they're ready for a fight.

MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 25: Rafael Mosquera, NY Red Bulls II

Rafael Mosquera - Red Bulls II

Rafael Mosquera delivered a performance to remember this past weekend, earning MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 25 honors after leading Red Bulls II to a wild 7-4 win over Columbus Crew 2.

The 20-year-old Panamanian midfielder was everywhere on Sunday night, scoring a Goal of the Matchweek nominee and setting up three more goals in his first career three-assist performance.

He played a key role from the start, assisting on both of Nehuen Benedetti's first-half goals before curling home a strike of his own just before halftime.

Mosquera capped off his night in the 90th minute with another assist, setting up fellow Panamanian Mijahir Jimenez and becoming the youngest player in club history to record three assists in a single match.

Mosquera has been in a sensational run of form over the last month.

He leads Red Bulls II with 10 assists, tied for the league lead, and has now logged an assist in four straight matches.

With 11 goal contributions in his last five appearances, his all-around brilliance has helped push Red Bulls II back to first place in the Eastern Conference and made him one to watch as the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro playoffs draw closer.

MLS NEXT Rising Star of Matchweek 25: Chase Nagle, Chicago Fire II

Charles Nagle - Chicago Fire II

Sixteen-year-old Chase Nagle made his mark for Chicago Fire II last Sunday, scoring his first professional goal to earn MLS NEXT Rising Star of the Matchweek honors.

The Fire Academy forward opened the scoring against New England Revolution II in the 22nd minute.

Nagle received a pass from Jhoiner Montiel in the box and, with great composure, put the ball past the Revs II goalkeeper to give Chicago the early lead.

His goal was crucial as Fire II secured a shootout win on the road, helping Chicago stay in fourth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Nagle has been an important contributor for Fire II in 2025, logging nearly 1,500 minutes across 18 appearances and two goal contributions.

His breakout performance in Matchweek 25 is another sign of the pipeline of talent being developed at the Chicago Fire Academy.
