Best of the West! Colorado Rapids 2 are heading to MLS NEXT Pro Cup

COL3

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - After a wild turn of events, Colorado Rapids 2 are MLS NEXT Pro Cup-bound!

Fending off yet another upset from MNUFC2, they had to leave it until the second half to pull off a stunning 2-1 comeback in front of the faithful on hand at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Sunday night.

20-year-old winger James Cameron was the man of the hour after finding the winner in the 64th minute. His point-blank header from midfielder Sydney Wathuta slammed the door shut after the momentum had tilted Rapids 2's way in the second half.

The stage was set by Generation adidas winger Alex Harris, whose 50th-minute equalizer rendered an opening goal from MNUFC2 striker Logan Dorsey a moot point. With it, Harris marks a three-game scoring streak in the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Cup Playoffs.

With the second-half lead, Rapids 2 settled into a defensive pose that MNUFC2 were unable to overcome as the minutes ticked toward full time.

Erik Bushey's side ultimately held strong to book their first-ever trip to the MLS NEXT Pro Cup Final.

Man of the Match

When you find the match winner to head to a final, the Man of the Match spoils naturally come with it. When Cameron rose sky high to knock in Colorado's winner, it marked his second goal contribution of the playoffs.

Big apple awaits

Next up, Rapids 2 will make the cross-country trip to face off against the Eastern Conference champs New York Red Bulls II next weekend for all the marbles.

With a road record of 8W-3T-3L this season, 2023 Coach of the Year Erik Bushey has already gotten his side into upset mode in their semifinal win over The Town FC on the road last week in the Western semifinal. Do they have one more in them?
