Portland Timbers2 have been named the MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchday 8 following their impressive comeback win against Whitecaps FC 2 last Sunday.
The match, which saw the two Cascadia rivals meet for the second time this season, was a thrilling encounter that ended in a 3-1 victory for Timbers2.
Shannon Murray's side hosted a formidable Whitecaps FC 2 team that was scratching the upper echelon of the Western Conference standings and was fresh off a win against Houston Dynamo 2 in Matchday 7.
Things didn’t start off well for Timbers2 as Whitecaps FC 2 took the lead in the 40th minute thanks to a Levonte Johnson's close-range finish.
However, Timbers2 quickly equalized just before half-time, with Michael Vang curling in a right-footed beauty from just outside the box to level the score.
The home side then took the lead moments later when Victor Griffith converted a penalty just before the break.
In the second half, Timbers2 extended their lead to 3-1 when Florián Monzón headed in a corner kick from Vang in the 57th minute, securing the three points in the process.
Thanks to Michael Vang's impressive performance and the team's never-give-up attitude, Timbers2 earned their second win of the season, equaling their total from 2022 in just six games.
Timbers2 will now be looking to maintain their momentum and achieve their first back-to-back victories in MLS NEXT Pro when they face LA Galaxy II on May 21.
