Red Bull New York II have appointed Dominik Wohlert as Head Coach, the club announced today. Wohlert becomes the fifth Head Coach in franchise history.

“Dominik has been an incredible asset as an assistant coach of our first team over the last four seasons.” Says Head of Sport Julian de Guzman, “he possesses the qualities we look for in a Head Coach and we are excited to have him contribute to the development of Red Bull New York II.”

Wohlert has spent the last four seasons with Red Bull New York, joining in January 2022 as an Assistant Coach of Analysis under former Head Coaches Gerhard Struber and Troy Lesesne. He then became an assistant coach on former Head Coach Sandro Schwarz’s staff in January 2024.  In the role, he helped New York earn an Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Title and an Audi 2024 MLS Cup appearance. The club has earned three postseason appearances in four seasons with the Heidelberg, Germany native on the staff.

Prior to New York, Wohlert served as a scouting intern for Bundesliga side Hertha BSC before being promoted to Head of Match Analysis, a role which he served from July 2013 to June 2021. The German continued to work up the ladder and was appointed as an assistant coach with the club from July 2021 to December 2021.

As a player, Wohlert was a part of the Hertha BSC Academy and played with their second team.

“I’m truly honored and thankful for this opportunity to become Head Coach for Red Bull New York II.” Says Wohlert, “We as a club have a strong identity and a proven pathway for young talents, and I’m excited to build on that with energy, structure, and ambition.”

This will be his first career professional head coaching position.

Wohlert’s coaching staff will consist of Assistant Coach Jonathan Rhodes, Goalkeeper Coach Miguel Gutierrez, Athletic Trainer Jamie Goodwin, Performance Analyst Joshua Rubin, Equipment Manager Fernando Da Costa, Strength and Conditioning Coach Adrian Sanchez, and Team Administrator Savita Wilson.
