STORYLINES

Truist Point Stadium Showdown

Carolina Core FC visited Chattanooga FC in their most recent fixture and kept the hosts scoreless in a draw, earning an extra point in the penalty kick shootout to remain in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The result extends the North Carolina team's unbeaten streak to four games (five games across all competitions) in MLS NEXT Pro. Carolina Core FC is three points ahead of 9th-placed NYCFC II and 10th-placed Orlando City B—with all three teams having played 26 matches so far. Carolina Core FC now returns to Truist Point Stadium for the final time in the MLS NEXT Pro 2025 regular season to face a team that is desperate for the playoffs—Orlando City B. The two clubs have met twice in 2025, with each winning at home against the other (1-1-0 vs OCB in 2025 MLSNP).

Player to Watch

Goalkeeper Alex Sutton has been the backbone for Carolina Core FC this season, leading the team to another shutout against Chattanooga FC in the latest match. Sunday’s result brings Sutton to six clean sheets for the season, ranking fourth in the league standings. The 25-year-old keeper also has the most minutes played in MLS NEXT Pro (2,340 minutes) and leads the league in interceptions with 40, fourteen more than the second-placed player. Sutton has also entered the top five for goalkeeper saves, with 73. His defensive efforts are a large factor as to why Carolina Core FC is in playoff contention, and he will need to continue his strong performances this weekend against Orlando City B.

Critical Matchup for Orlando City B

Orlando City B travels to North Carolina on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Huntsville City FC. The result leaves them in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with 35 points and two matches remaining. Orlando needs to get a result on the road against The Foxes, as a loss would eliminate the side from playoff contention. OCB will be looking for a big-time performance from their leading goalscorer, 22-year-old midfielder Shakur Mohammed, who has 10 goals in MLS NEXT Pro this season. Justin Ellis has also been exceptional this season for OCB, as the 18-year-old forward has registered 11 goal contributions in the MLSNP season (seven goals, four assists) and leads his side in key passes with 37.
