First preseason test cut short due to rainy conditions

Joseph Perez, Luis Garcia Sosa and Andres Jimenez Aranzazu warm-up in Knoxville

Chattanooga Football Club played its first 45 minutes of preseason today before the match away to One Knoxville Sporting Club had to be called off due to heavy rain in the area.

Head Coach and Sporting Director Rod Underwood named his first starting XI of the season with newcomers Jesse Williams and Andres Jimenez Aranzazu joining returners Jon Burke, Anatolie Prepelita, Joseph Perez, Alex McGrath, Luis Garcia Sosa, Taylor Gray and Jesus Ibarra. Two triallists also played the full first 45 minutes.

The first half was competitive and physical with any significant chances being few and far between. Williams, Garcia Sosa and Aranzazu were each shown yellow cards during the half.

An entirely new 11 began the second half, but after consultation with the referees, all parties decided to call the match off just five minutes in.

"I felt the things we have been working on in training showed," said Underwood. "I was pleased to see the work we are doing is taking shape, and I'm looking forward to getting back out on the training field."

Chattanooga FC will now prepare for next weekend's "Blastoff Battle" preseason invitational hosted by Huntsville City FC. CFC will face USL League One side South Georgia Tormenta FC on Friday, Feb. 16 at 4:00 p.m. CT/5:00 p.m. ET. The club will return to the field on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 11:00 a.m. CT/12:00 p.m. ET against the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
