It’s the time of year when MLS NEXT Pro sides get put to the test as some of the stars of tomorrow break for national team camps, making for some rotation and new faces entering the scene.
Matchweek 12 saw some drama in the East as Orlando City B used a late game-winner to slow the roll of conference leader Chattanooga FC.
The Western Conference leaders also had to sweat one out as Ventura County FC’s 3-3 tie and ensuing shootout win provided one of the most electric highlight reels we’ve seen all year.

For the first time in weeks, Chattanooga FC looked human in Matchweek 12.
Close games have been a theme for CFC this season, but Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Orlando City B was the first time they came up on the wrong end of a one-goal match.
In the long view, it’s just the second loss of the season for Chris Nugent’s group and is hardly a blemish.
They put together a four-game unbeaten streak in the wake of their other loss. What will the response be this time?

The Town FC machine just keeps on rolling.
Their league-best form extended to six games unbeaten over the weekend, and striker Nonso Adimabua has announced himself as a bona fide 2025 MVP candidate with his fifth goal in the month of May.
Now above the playoff line in the West, TTFC still has work to do in their effort to firm their grip on a 2025 postseason spot.

Colorado Rapids 2 were up to the task in their visit to SKC II this week.
A hearty 4-1 road win is something head coach Erik Bushey and co. will take any week. They sit third in the crowded Western Conference playoff picture and will have home field advantage in their next three matches.

RBNY II moved closer to Chattanooga's heels at the top of the East with a win last weekend.
They have a game in hand over the current leaders and could have a one-vs-two statement game coming up later this month. First things first though, and Ibrahim Sekagya’s squad won’t be overlooking a very healthy midweek test against Crown Legacy FC.

The defending champs had a well-earned bye week in Matchweek 12 afer going 3-0 in May.
They return to a replay of last year’s Western Conference Final and a potential statement game against unofficial rival St Louis CITY2.

Winners of their last two, St Louis CITY2 had a bye in Matchweek 12.
They already got a little revenge on North Texas SC for last year’s Western Conference Final with a 3-0 opening day result on the road.
A second win would inch them closer to a season sweep of the defending champions.

Huntsville City FC had a bye during Matchweek 12 as well.
A big test awaits as they host a fellow Eastern elite in Orlando City B during their return to action this week.

The Western Conference leaders showed their mettle with a rally to get two points out of a rollercoaster 3-3 result and shootout win over Real Monarchs on Sunday.
They’re on a two-game unbeaten streak ahead of three consecutive road matches to close out June.

Even in a week with heavy rotation, Union II were able to flex their Eastern Conference champion grit against FC Cincinnati 2 to close out Matchweek 12.

Dynamo Dos took a step in the right direction with a Texas Derby shootout win over Austin FC II.
