Late Push Not Enough as Carolina Core FC Falls at CT United FC

LAM00086

New Haven, CT (July 5, 2026) - Carolina Core FC fell 3-1 on the road to Connecticut United FC on Sunday night.

Both teams created early opportunities, trading chances on either end of the field in the opening stages. An energetic high press helped the Foxes force turnovers in their defensive half and establish early possession. Despite The Core's bright start, Connecticut broke through in the 14th minute when a low cross into the box found Barnabas Tanyi for a clean finish.

The Core gained momentum back quickly, creating multiple chances on goal as they search for a breakthrough of their own. Thomas Raimbault and Arnaud Tattevin exchanged opportunities in the attacking third, forcing a series of defensive plays out of the Connecticut backline. An impressive passing sequence down the right sideline set Raimbault in the face of the goal, creating one of the most promising chances for the Foxes as they continued to settle into the match. A breakaway from Tattevin in the 43rd minute nearly opened the scoring in the final stages of the half, before a save from Gunther Rankenburg pushed the shot well over the crossbar.

The Foxes' persistence paid off shortly after halftime. In the 49th minute, Ricardo Montenegro displayed excellent composure by squaring the ball to Arnaud Tattevin, who calmly slotted his finish past Rankenburg to bring the match level at 1-1

Connecticut responded quickly after the restart, reclaiming the lead when Hivan Kouonang finished off a well-crafted assist from Tanyi. The home side extended its advantage just four minutes later as Daniel Dippolito found the back of the net with a finish to the far post, making it 3-1.

As Connecticut continued to progress with attacking intent, key saves from Nick Holliday and the Foxes backline kept the home team at bay. The Core showed perseverance despite the defecit, with Jair Caiza nearly closing in on the lead with a long range shot narrowly missing the target. Tattevin continued to look for his second of the game as a perfectly weighted ball from Caiza found him in front of goal before placing it just over the crossbar. The Foxes saw a series of chances in the closing minutes but were unable to capitalize before the final whistle sealed the 3-1 defeat.

Carolina Core FC returns home to Truist Point on Sunday, July 12,  to face Chattanooga FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
