MLS NEXT Pro Top 10 Power Rankings: Matchday 10

IMG_6028

There was plenty of moving and shaking in the MLS NEXT Pro Matchday 10 Power Rankings.

While the top two spots remained occupied by Colorado Rapids 2 and Crown Legacy FC, several other teams moved up and down in the rankings. New England Revolution II leapfrogged to No. 3 after continuing their positive run of form in recent weeks.

Orlando City B also moved up the ranks following a second-straight victory on Monday night while NYCFC II cracked the Top 10 for the first time in 2023.

Here is a closer look at MLS NEXT Pro's Top 10 Power Rankings:

For the first time in 2023, NYCFC II has entered the MLS NEXT Pro Power Rankings. Matt Pilkington’s squad defeated FC Cincinnati 2 by a 2-1 scoreline on Sunday, moving up to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Jack Beer has helped lead the charge with two goals in his last two outings.

Last Match: 2-1 win at FC Cincinnati 2
Next Match: at Huntsville City FC on Sunday, June 4

Despite seeing their three-match winning streak come to an end in Florida, New York Red Bulls II have still been one of the better MLS NEXT Pro squads this spring. Red Bulls II have won three of their last five matches and remain one of the better defensive teams in the league (11 goals conceded in 11 matches). 19-year-old Ibrahim Kasule recently scored his first league goal on Monday night, giving Red Bulls II another promising attacking option.

Last Match: 3-2 loss at Orlando City B
Next Match: vs. New England Revolution II on Sunday, June 4

Tacoma Defiance have won two of their last three shootout results, but ultimately have also left points on the table too. Wade Webber’s squad edged LAFC2 in a shootout 3-1 on Sunday, after conceding an 81st minute equalizer to Christian Torres. The Defiance have slowed down a bit since a three-match winning streak earlier this spring, while others have upped their performances.

Last Match: 1-1, SOW vs LAFC2
Next Match: vs. St. Louis CITY SC on Monday, June 5

Orlando City B jumped up one spot to No. 7 after back-to-back victories in a five-day span. A 1-0 road result over Inter Miami II was followed up by a 3-2 home triumph over New York Red Bulls II. Jack Lynn’s stellar goalscoring form has certainly helped OCB, but overall it’s been a team effort in recent weeks to move up the Power Rankings and East standings.

Last Match: 3-2 win vs. New York Red Bulls II
Next Match: at TFC II on Sunday, June 4

Despite earning one point against LA Galaxy II on Sunday, Whitecaps FC II dropped to No. 6. Ricardo Clark’s men struggled to grind out three points against one of MLS NEXT Pro’s inconsistent sides. It’s not a major drop for Whitecaps FC 2 at all, who have seven points earned from their last nine available.

Last Match: 2-2, SOL at LA Galaxy II
Next Match: vs. Sporting KC II on Friday, June 2

Austin FC II’s third-straight defeat has dropped them to No. 5 in the Matchday 10 Power Rankings. Brett Uttley’s squad are still very much capable of turning things around, but it’s definitely a worrying sign for Austin FC II after being held goal-less for the third match in a row. A home showdown with Real Monarchs won’t be any much easier either on Friday.

Last Match: 2-0 loss at Houston Dynamo II
Next Match: vs. Real Monarchs on Friday, June 2

Back-to-back conference losses have dropped Columbus Crew 2 to No. 4 in this week’s Power Rankings. After being shutout by New England Revolution II 2-0, Crew 2 conceded three unanswered goals in a 3-2 road loss to Philadelphia Union II. Laurent Courtois’ squad next faces a Chicago Fire II side that they have yet to lose to in MLS NEXT Pro on Matchday 11.

Last Match: 3-2 loss at Philadelphia Union II
Next Match: vs. Chicago Fire II on Sunday, June 4

Clint Peay’s New England Revolution II squad earned the largest jump in the MLS NEXT Pro Power Rankings after extending their winning run to four matches. A 2-0 triumph against Columbus Crew 2 was followed up by a 1-0 shutout victory over Inter Miami II. Jacob Jackson registered two clean sheets in the past week while three different players have contributed goals.

Last Match: 1-0 win vs. Inter Miami II
Next Match: at New York Red Bulls II on Sunday, June 4

Crown Legacy FC continues to lead the Eastern Conference and also continues to be in the Top Two of the Matchday 10 Power Rankings. Jose Tavares’ men edged Philadelphia Union II 4-2 in a shootout last Wednesday before shutting out Chicago Fire II 1-0 thanks to David Poreba’s third goal of the season. The result also earned Crown Legacy FC their first clean sheet since April 23.

Last Match: 1-0 win at Chicago Fire II
Next Match: Bye Week on Matchday 11

Another MLS NEXT Pro matchday, another victory for Colorado Rapids 2. Erik Bushey’s squad have continued to roll in 2023, downing MNUFC2 by a 4-1 scoreline after edging North Texas SC 4-2 in a shootout in midweek play. Rapids 2 have scored three or more goals in four of their last five matches, giving them 27 total goals this season. Remi Cabral looks to be joining Yosuke Hanya as Rapids 2’s go-to attacker after scoring twice at the weekend.

Last Match: 4-1 win at MNUFC2
Next Match: vs. Earthquakes II on Sunday, June 4
