MLS NEXT Pro Top 10 Power Rankings: Matchday 12

There were no new additions to the MLS NEXT Pro Top 10 Power Rankings, but three teams boosted their stocks after positive Matchday 12 performances.

Houston Dynamo 2, New England Revolution II, and Orlando City B moved up the Power Rankings this week while five clubs remained in their spots and three dropped. New York Red Bulls II and Whitecaps FC 2 both dropped into the No. 9 and No. 10 spots respectively, sitting just ahead of the red line.

Here is a closer look at MLS NEXT Pro's Top 10 Power Rankings:

Three-straight matches without a regulation victory hasn’t helped Whitecaps FC 2 in recent weeks, leading to their drop to No. 10. Ricardo Clark’s squad had a golden opportunity to leapfrog Austin FC II in the Western Conference standings, but suffered a 1-0 loss at Parmer Field on Friday. A busy week features matches against Real Monarchs and MNUFC2 with Whitecaps FC 2 heading into both as favorites to claim three points.

Last Match: 1-0 loss at Austin FC II
Next Match: vs. Real Monarchs on Thursday, June 15.

New York Red Bulls II have picked up several important results in 2023, but a first rivalry loss to NYCFC II didn’t come at a good time for the Eastern Conference club. A 3-1 road loss to NYCFC II dropped Red Bulls II to fifth place in the East, as Ibrahim Sekagya’s squad failed to take advantage of other results in the conference. A Matchday 13 trip to Crown Legacy FC is a crucial test for Red Bulls II.

Last Match: 3-1 loss at NYCFC II
Next Match: at Crown Legacy FC on Sunday, June 18

NYCFC II extended their winning run to four matches on Matchday 12 after a 3-1 home victory over New York Red Bulls II. Piero Elias scored twice for Matt Pilkington’s squad while Jonathan Jimenez also continued his strong run of form for the club. NYCFC II sits just one point outside of the top four in the East following their latest impressive result.

Columbus Crew 2 desperately needed to snap their losing streak on Sunday and Laurent Courtois’ squad did just that with a statement home win. Crew 2 knocked off East-leading Crown Legacy FC by a 2-1 scoreline, using goals from Noah Fuson and Coleman Gannon to exact revenge on the expansion side. A short week continues for Crew 2 on Thursday against ATL UTD 2 before a tricky weekend trip to NYCFC II on Sunday.

Orlando City B rebounded nicely on Matchday 12 with a 4-0 victory over FC Cincinnati 2 on Sunday. Martīn Perelman watched as his squad score four goals in an 18-minute span in the first half to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to TFC II the week prior. Jack Lynn continued his strong goalscoring run by contributing his seventh goal of the league campaign.

Last Match: 4-0 win vs. FC Cincinnati 2
Next Match: at Chicago Fire II on Thursday, June 15.

New England Revolution II claimed two points at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, edging Chicago Fire II 4-3 in a shootout. Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Jack Panayotou both scored for Clint Peay’s squad, who jumped up to No. 5 in the Power Rankings. Revs II have two winnable matches on their schedule this week, and will desperately need results in both to avoid a drop in the East standings by weekend’s end.

Houston Dynamo 2 have continued to fly in recent weeks, moving up once again in the MLS NEXT Pro Power Rankings. A 4-1 road triumph over MNUFC2 extended Dynamo Dos’ unbeaten run to five matches in league play. Diego Gonzalez and Juan Castilla led the way with one goal apiece, giving Dynamo Dos 14 goals scored over their unbeaten run.

Last Match: 4-1 win at MNUFC2
Next Match: vs. Timbers2 on Thursday, June 15.

Austin FC II earned back-to-back wins for the third time in 2023, edging Whitecaps FC 1-0 on Friday and staying in the Top Three of the Power Rankings. CJ Fodrey’s second-half goal was all Brett Uttley’s squad needed to edge a potential challenger in the quest to catch Colorado Rapids 2 for top spot in the West. Back-to-back clean sheets are also important for ATX II.

Last Match: 1-0 win vs. Whitecaps FC 2
Next Match: at St. Louis CITY2 on Wednesday, June 14.

Despite suffering just a second regulation loss of 2023, Crown Legacy FC remains second in the Power Rankings. A 2-1 road defeat at the hands of Columbus Crew 2 trimmed Crown Legacy FC’s lead to just two points in the Eastern Conference standings. A three-match road trip ends with a visit to Philadelphia Union II on Wednesday before Jose Tavares’ squad returns home for back-to-back home matches.

Next Match: at Philadelphia Union II on Wednesday, June 14.

The historic run continued for Colorado Rapids 2 on Sunday with a 1-0 road triumph over LAFC2.

Yosuke Hanya’s second-half goal was all Erik Bushey’s squad needed to remain unbeaten in 2023, sitting seven points clear at the top of the Western Conference table. Rapids 2 have continued to pass each test with flying colors this season and with no midweek match on their schedule, the West leaders will have time to refuel before welcoming Tacoma Defiance to town.
