(HIGH POINT, NC – June 11, 2026) – Carolina Core FC today announced the appointment of David A. Hughes II as Interim Assistant Coach, adding a coach with experience in performance analysis, player development, and match preparation across the collegiate and professional levels. Hughes joins Carolina Core FC following a career spanning NCAA Division I programs and Major League Soccer.
“When building out the staff, I wanted to bring in a coach that could make us better, and that is exactly what David does,” said Interim Head Coach Jake Davis. “From our time in Hartford together, I knew he is someone I can trust, someone who is first in the building and last out. He connects extremely well with players and staff, and he sees the game at a very high level. His experience in MLS and MLS Next Pro makes him a valuable addition to this team, and I could not be happier that he has joined us at Carolina Core FC.”
Davis added, “The team behind the team is vital to our success, and I am extremely grateful we were able to add David to the staff. He will continue to push us to operate at an elite standard, and he makes me a better coach. I am happy to welcome him to Carolina Core FC. The standards are set by the staff, and I believe we have added to our group in the best possible way.”
Hughes began his coaching and analytical career in 2019 with the Providence College women’s soccer program, where he served as director of technical analysis. He provided video analysis for the coaching staff, live-coded matches, and supported opponent scouting and film breakdown while contributing to training sessions and matchday operations.
In 2021, Hughes joined the College of the Holy Cross women’s soccer program as goalkeeper coach and recruiting coordinator. He led goalkeeper development, managed statistical and video-based opponent scouting, and coordinated recruiting operations.
Hughes later spent three seasons with the New England Revolution as a first team video analyst. In that role, he supported training and match analysis, produced opponent scouting reports, developed video presentations for player development, and created scouting materials for potential transfer targets. He also provided analytical support for the club’s U18 academy, including set piece analysis.
Most recently, Hughes served as operations coordinator and assistant coach with the Brown University men’s soccer program during the 2025 season, assisting with daily team operations, player development, and match preparation.
Hughes now joins Carolina Core FC as the club continues its 2026 MLS Next Pro campaign, bringing coaching experience, analytical expertise, and professional insight to the technical staff.
