Carolina Core FC SIGN ROBERT BAILEY

HIGH POINT, N.C. (January 10, 2024) - Carolina Core FC, an independent club that will join MLS NEXT Pro in 2024, has signed 23 year-old, Robert Bailey. The South Carolina native was spotted during the second Carolina Core FC open tryout.

“Robert is a promising and dynamic goalkeeper, that displays both excitement and athleticism on the field,” explains Donovan Ricketts, Goalkeeper Coach.

Robert began his collegiate career with Division I side, University of South Carolina Upstate. Following 3 seasons with the team, the goalkeeper transferred to University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH) for his senior season.

During the 2022 season, Robert earned honors from The Gulf South Conference being named “GSC Defender of the Week” with UAH. The accolade was granted following an outstanding match against University of Montevallo. The senior goalkeeper had 9 saves on the 1-0 victory. Overall, Robert played 6 matches for UAH, maintaining 3 shutouts on the season. Upon graduation, Robert transferred to Lee University to continue his playing career and obtain his Master’s Degree.

Robert will join Carolina Core FC following an impressive season with Lee University, while studying for his Masters of Business Administration. During the 2023 season, Robert played a total of 532 minutes, maintaining 2 shutouts.

“We saw several promising players at our last tryout, and Robert was one of them. We liked his technique, shot stopping ability, positioning and distribution. The entire staff is looking forward to watching him come in and compete for a spot on the field,” says Eddie Pope, Chief Sporting Officer.

Robert will join Carolina Core FC in their inaugural season with MLS NEXT Pro this coming spring. After his college career, Robert’s experience will be instrumental to the success of the club. Carolina Core FC will play their home matches at Truist Point in downtown High Point, North Carolina.
