When Nolan Anderson’s phone rang on a random weekday, he had no idea his soccer journey was about to reach a new level.
The young goalkeeper had just been selected for the U.S. Under-17 National Team, an opportunity he describes as a moment flooded with happiness, pride and gratitude. For Anderson, the call-up marked more than a personal achievement; it was a chance to represent a country that carries deeper ties in his family. After receiving the news, his first phone call was to his father, whose service in the U.S. military instilled a strong sense of patriotism in him from a young age, making the moment even more meaningful.
Stepping onto the field for his first national team training session, Anderson admitted there was only one thing on his mind: the immense pride he had in being there. “It means the world, representing your country,” Anderson shared. That feeling stayed with him throughout his experience as he trained alongside some of the nation's top young talent while gaining valuable lessons both on and off the field.
Growing up, Anderson looked to U.S. Men’s National Team legend, Tim Howard, for inspiration while between the posts. Howard’s journey began in the United States youth national team system before evolving into a Hall of Fame career that included 121 appearances and 19 individual honors, cementing his place among the greatest American players of all time. For Anderson, Howard’s path serves as proof that childhood dreams can become reality with hard work and dedication; a standard he aims to follow as he continues to progress.

One of the biggest takeaways from his national team experience was the level of talent surrounding him. Training alongside the players and coaches provided lessons that extended beyond the field of play.
“The quality of players that America has; especially the young talent that's coming through; it's quality.” He acknowledged. “I learned a lot about the mental part of the game, just how hard these guys work and the dedication that they put into it at a very young age.”
His time playing with the United States national team became one of the most memorable experiences of his life. From start to finish, it was something that he could only describe as truly incredible. In an environment where dreams are becoming reality, it’s difficult to pick out a single moment that stands above the rest; especially when every day carries its own significance.
If given the opportunity to watch Anderson step onto the field and stand between the posts, fans will notice a key part of his routine performed before every match. The same prayer and a two-hand punch to the crossbar before the opening whistle has become a superstition for the goalkeeper, and something fans can look out for when he enters the field.
Anderson now brings his national team experience to Carolina Core FC, where he joined the Foxes in March of 2026 from Spanish club Almunacer City.
With the World Cup officially underway and nations battling for the title, Anderson predicts France will lift the trophy when the tournament concludes in July.
